Karen Aldoroty: 2018 Vintner Grant Honoree for Breast Cancer Research

After the 2014 V Foundation Wine Celebration, and the day before the Napa earthquake, Karen was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma in Situ at Queen of the Valley Hospital. She went on to UCSF for a second opinion, which resulted in a lumpectomy and treatment for breast cancer.  Karen remained strong from Day One, hopeful that she had detected her breast cancer early on.  After being a caregiver to her husband, Neil, for over two decades, Karen knew quite well what she may be facing in her battle with breast cancer

My message is Early Detection!

Neil Aldoroty watched Jim Valvano deliver his momentous speech in March of 1993, not knowing that a few months later, he, an accomplished, healthy, 47-year-old doctor, would be diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and battle Stage IV cancer three more times thereafter.  Neil lost his fight twenty-three years later, with Karen right by his side, providing care during his daily crusade to live his life to the fullest.
