This lovely 3L of Barnett Vineyards 2008 Rattlesnake Hill, Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a deep purple core and rim. Black raspberry and cherry spice concentrate comes off the nose immediately followed by big black pepper, cocoa nib and graphite. As the wine opens up in the glass, innumberable fragrances evolve. The wine is extra plush on entry; where the youth of the wine is evident from the full chalky tannins and beautifully balanced acid. Deeper darker fruit and ripe blackberry emerges on the mid-palate, as well as, fennel and rich chocolate. This is an example of a classic year atop Spring Mountain and this beauty will age gracefully over the next 17-20 years.

The partnership between top-notch viticulturist Lisa Behrens and well-known Araujo winemaker, Francoise Peschon has created another beautiful, elegant, Bordeaux-styled wine with the 2006 vintage. Deep ruby/purple-hued with a sweet nose of black cherry, black currant, forest floor, roasted herb, licorice, and spice box aromas. This knockout 2007 Cabernet is successful and satisfying on all points. Description: One magnum each of 2005 & 2006 Sleeping Giant “Aldoroty Vineyard” cabernet sauvignon signed by Chris Dearden and Neil & Karen Aldoroty, plus lunch for four guests at Las Amigas Vineyard. The 2005 Sleeping Giant is bright, moderately saturated purple and fairly viscous, with dark cherry, cassis, tar, fennel, black licorice and spicy, smoky oak notes on the nose. On the palate the wine is rich, round, and luscious with dark berry fruit, cassis, plum, and mulberry notes. Oak tannins are fine and well integrated and underlying acidity gives a juicy quality. Overall the wine is seamless even at this young age, and has excellent balance with a finish that is long and spicy. The 2006 Sleeping Giant is bright, intense ruby red and highly viscous. On the nose the wine has notes of stewed fruits, prune, fig, plum, Grand Marnier, red licorice, fennel, rhubarb, cedar, and cigar box. It is full bodied and richly fruity with red and black fruit plus sundried tomato and smoke. The wine has fairly gripping tannins now which will soften with aeration or age, and the finish is long and expressive.
