#203 Dalla Valle Vineyards Magnums of 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon & 2009 Maya

2009 produced unusually dark, fragrant, structured wines that will surely age for decades. Its flavor profile matches perfectly to its dark red-purple hue, with aromas of cinnamon, licorice, cardamom and black currant. Fruit and spice flavors explode on the entry, firm tannins give a grip and lengthen the finish. This wine will certainly age well in the bottle. 96 points – Wine Advocate, 94 points – Wine Spectator. The 2009 Maya is so densely structured, textured and colored, that an assessment of it today provides only a glimpse of what the wine will become over time. This wine will not reach it’s full potential for many years and will likely live strong for several decades. 97 points – Wine Advocate, 95 points – Wine Spectator.

California, but in the world.” Stephen Tanzer of International Wine Cellar says “It’s hard to imagine another wine that has provided so many fireworks over the past two decades.” And this vintage is no exception. The 2009 Harlan Estate Cabernet “shows another side of this great Napa Valley wine, freshly cut roses, dark fruit and licorice are woven together beautifully in this elegant, totally polished wine. The tannins are pure silk, while the radiant finish conveys an impression of pure sensuality.” 96-98 points, Robert Parker, Jr. – Wine Advocate..

#207 Herb Lamb Vineyards 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Trio & Private Tour & Tasting for 6

Herb Lamb magnum and two 750mls of 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Michael Trujillo says, “The 2010 is a sexy, very accessible
wine, with sweet nutty coconut and chestnut in the nose. There are generous red fruit flavors in the palate, expressive of a cool-climate wine, showing great structure and length. In the mouth, there are bright, fruity notes of black and red cherry, with roasted chestnut and hints of mocha and coconut, with a lengthy cherry finish. The oak is well-integrated and shows vanilla and toasty notes in the young wine.” The 2010 vintage, although accessible now, will only get better with bottle age and decanting. Give it some time to mature before serving with a great meal and good friends. Enjoy a private tour and tasting for 6 at the home of Herb and Jennifer Lamb. The exclusive vineyard and winery is not open to the public, but for the V Wine Celebration they will throw open their doors and welcome 6 people into the heart of Herb Lamb. NAPA VALLEY, CA, AUGUST 10, 2015 – The V Foundation for Cancer Research’s annual fundraiser, The V Wine Celebration, garnered more than $10.6 million over the weekend of August 6-9 for cancer research. With an unprecedented $3 million matching grant from an anonymous donor, the total included more than $7.8 million in “fund-a-need” donations to support pediatric brain cancer research.

“There are moments in your life where you feel like everything you have done up until then leads to this one single moment,” said Julie Allegro, founder and co-chair of The V Wine Celebration. “Tonight was one of those nights. The feeling in that room – the excitement, the tears, the energy – we were all one, for a brief moment. And together, we exceeded our wildest goals and raised over $10 million, and will make a dent in finding a cure to cancer.”

This year’s V Wine Celebration gala dinner at Nickel & Nickel winery welcomed back Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski to rouse the crowd in the same way he has inspired and motivated players during his basketball coaching career. He suggested renaming The V Wine Celebration “The Winning Foundation” “because that’s what The V Foundation has done. It’s found cures. Jimmy (Valvano) was all about winning. That’s why this foundation was formed. Instead of being in his hospital room and saying, ‘I’m going to die,’ he said, ‘I’m going to win.’ “

“Everybody in this room is part of the team tonight,” he added. “Everybody will do something to help.”
The most compelling component of the auction was the fund-a-need, with more than half the guests raising their paddles to pledge donations to support research into pediatric brain cancer, the leading cause of death by disease in children.
