#108 Behrens Family magnum Duo 2009 Moulds Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 The Knockout, plus Tasting for 4

2009 Behrens Family Moulds Cabernet Sauvignon is the final wine in the 2009 vintage vineyard designate series. The bright, ruby red color belies the dark chocolate, cassis, toasted oak and telecherry aromas of the bouquet. Flavors of grilled steak and black cherries fill the pretty,
focused palate before finishing with a hint of graphite. The perfectly balanced acidity makes this wine an ideal pairing for food and indicates that it will age beautifully as well. 92 points – Stephen Tanzer. Appropriately named, “The Knockout” is a rich, dark Cabernet blended with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. #112 Caymus Vineyards 3L of 2010 Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon

Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons, a “Napa Valley” and the venerable “Special Selection.” Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through “hang time.” Leaving the fruit to “hang”on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine’s fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Special Selection is the flagship wine of the Wagner family and is comprised of the very best barrels of the vintage. This wine is not produced in difficult years. The 2010 vintage of Caymus Special Selection is an outstanding example of this exquisite wine. 92 points – Wine Spectator.

#113 Chanticleer 2009 Magnum Cabernet Sauvignon

Open and inviting upon first pouring, this gorgeous, understated Napa Cab has notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, plum fig and vanilla bean. On the palate, it is more like a layer cake, contrasting opulent, showy boysenberry and cassis and more delicate, tart raspberry, rich mocha and sweet-tart cherry cola, and showing a streak of sanguine, iron-rich minerality. The wine is rich, full, and plush, with very fine, well-integrated tannins and is very well-balanced. Juicy acidity carries the long finish. Ready to drink now, but decanting for aeration would reveal even more character.

Full-bodied and well-balanced, ending with firmer tannins and a dash of anise.” Only 600 cases made. The 2005 is massive, concentrated and powerful. This is a classic Napa
Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for aging with fewer than 500 cases produced. On the nose, the 2004 is full of effusive black raspberry, earth, mushroom and hints of leather. The palate is intense and layered with opulent fruit, bold spice and tremendous mineral notes. Although the wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, each vineyard expresses its own personality, and contributes to a cohesive, integrated, and complex blend. The 2006 shows amazing purity of fruit, focus, balance and depth on the palate, with tiers of deeply concentrated fruit, anise, and licorice. Lush and full-bodied, this wine combines power, grace and finesse,
offering a dense core of mocha-laced blackberry, wild berry and spice layered on top of silky, supple tannins. The seductive finish lingers, repeating the core flavor themes.

A marvelous duo of Cabernet Sauvignon magnums, one Alexander Valley 2009 and one Napa Valley 2010. The 2009 Alexander Valley was
aged for two years in American and French oak barrels, it now reveals beautiful color with intense aromas of black cherries, cassis, and plum complimented by subtle hints of cocoa, tobacco and sweet, toasty vanilla with only 135 cases produced. The 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet was aged for two years and has abundant aromas of cherry and raspberry with layered floral, cinnamon and vanilla notes. Full-bodied, elegant and integrated on the palate, the wine delivers an ample mix of concentrated black and red fruit. Silky tannins support a mid-palate that has many layers. The first tournament was played with current holes 10 through 18 played as the first nine, and 1 through 9 as the second nine, then reversed permanently to its present layout for the 1935 tournament. Gene Sarazen hit the “shot heard ‘round the world” in 1935, holing a shot from the fairway on the par 5 15th for a double eagle. 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast. Sterling Vineyards Magnum of 2006 Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet is a quintessential  expression of the vintage. Their Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon brings together the finest lots from 2006 into a decadent, sophisticated wine. It opens with redolent aromas of ripe plum, cassis and dates joined by undertones of cocoa, butterscotch and toasted oak. Siduri is named for the Babylonian Goddess of wine, who, in Babylonian mythology, held the wine of eternal life. Siduri is unique in the
breadth and depth of their single varietal focus, crafting over 25 different Pinot Noir wines each year, the largest Pinot Noir focus of any
California winery. All of their Pinot Noir is produced unfiltered and unrefined in an effort to maximize the expression of the very diverse
sites from which they source their fruit. Novy Family Wines specializes in producing single vineyard Syrah from Napa, Sonoma and Santa
Lucia Highlands, and small bottlings of other varietals, including Zinfandel, Grenache, Viognier, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The Page-
Nord Vineyard is at the southern end of the Napa Valley between Yountville and the city of Napa. This location, at the cooler end of a
warmer valley, allows for a long hang-time and deep complexity within the wine.

#196 Rudy Ruettiger Hand-Signed “Play Like a Champion Today” Masterpiece Collage

Back in 1986, Lou Holtz had a sign crafted that read, “Play Like a Champion Today”. The sign, bright gold with dark blue lettering, was
positioned above a stairway outside the Notre Dame locker room. Soon a tradition emerged as players tapped the “Play Like a Champion
Today” sign for luck on the way to the field. Anyone who loves sports, anyone who loves movies, and anyone who loves an underdog
knows the story of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger. An undersized kid with oversized dreams, Rudy repeatedly was told he was too small to
play football. At Notre Dame, Ruettiger was part of the scout team and finally, on the last play of the final game of Ruettiger’s senior
year, coach Dan Devine put Ruettiger in for a play. Ruettiger made the most of it, recording a tackle and sending his family and friends
into a frenzy and prompting his teammates to carry him off amidst cheers from the Fighting Irish faithful.

NAPA VALLEY, CA, AUGUST 10, 2015 – The V Foundation for Cancer Research’s annual fundraiser, The V Wine Celebration, garnered more than $10.6 million over the weekend of August 6-9 for cancer research. With an unprecedented $3 million matching grant from an anonymous donor, the total included more than $7.8 million in “fund-a-need” donations to support pediatric brain cancer research.

“There are moments in your life where you feel like everything you have done up until then leads to this one single moment,” said Julie Allegro, founder and co-chair of The V Wine Celebration. “Tonight was one of those nights. The feeling in that room – the excitement, the tears, the energy – we were all one, for a brief moment. And together, we exceeded our wildest goals and raised over $10 million, and will make a dent in finding a cure to cancer.”

This year’s V Wine Celebration gala dinner at Nickel & Nickel winery welcomed back Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski to rouse the crowd in the same way he has inspired and motivated players during his basketball coaching career. He suggested renaming The V Wine Celebration “The Winning Foundation” “because that’s what The V Foundation has done. It’s found cures. Jimmy (Valvano) was all about winning. That’s why this foundation was formed. Instead of being in his hospital room and saying, ‘I’m going to die,’ he said, ‘I’m going to win.’ “

“Everybody in this room is part of the team tonight,” he added. “Everybody will do something to help.”
The most compelling component of the auction was the fund-a-need, with more than half the guests raising their paddles to pledge donations to support research into pediatric brain cancer, the leading cause of death by disease in children.
