Clark-ClaudonThere are many wonderful things about wine. Through the ages it has inspired, humored, delighted and celebrated. In addition, it has been used as a catalyst to raise money for deserving causes. Since their Peace Corp experience, hands-on-philanthropy has played an important role in the lives of Tom Clark & Laurie Claudon. From Colombia to Nicaragua to Nepal to the V Foundation Wine Celebration in their very own community, they realized that everyone can make a difference and that we all have something to offer, small or large.

2009 Vintner’s Grant Recipient Emily Miner

Emily MinerEmily's story started in mid January 2008 when she woke up one morning with some back pain. She figured she had slept on it wrong or maybe pulled a muscle. After a few weeks of yoga, massage, warm baths, visits to the chiropractor, pilates etc. the pain remained. Her chiropractor fortunately decided this was a matter that needed further attention so Emily was sent for some x-rays. The x-rays turned into MRI's which turned into CAT-scans and PET scans which turned into biopsies and a visit to the oncologist. A spot had been found on her lung and on her spine. After the doctors investigated further, they diagnosed Emily with Stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to her spine. Emily has never smoked and lives her life in the healthiest possible way so this has all been hugely shocking and devastating. Because of her youth, health and all around amazingness there is no reason for anyone not to be 1000% optimistic. If anyone can beat this thing, it's Emily! Please send all of your positive thoughts, prayers and energy to Emily as you follow her winning fight against cancer.
