The 2010 Fund A Need Leukemia Grant in Honor of Teri Kuhn

Leukemia is a malignant disease (cancer) of the bone marrow and blood. It is characterized by the uncontrolled accumulation of blood cells. Leukemia is divided into four categories: myelogenous or lymphocytic, each of which can be acute or chronic.
Our Fund A Need grant will bring together pre-clinical and clinical investigators in the research of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). The goal of the grant is to accelerate transfer of findings from the laboratory to clinical application. The purpose of the grant is to fund research that shows high promise for translating basic biomedical knowledge to prevention and new treatments. Grant proposals have been solicited from nine institutions. Seven institutions submitted proposals.
Fund A Need is a highly successful auction opportunity to raise money for a specific grant project. Since 2005, The V Foundation Wine Celebration has awarded Fund A Need grants for the following types of cancers: pancreatic, pediatric, breast, lung and melanoma. These grants total $7.2 million.

Two couples will enjoy four days and three nights at Jeremy Nickel’s secluded Napa Valley vineyard retreat and residence, The Vineyard House.
